We may not love everything about getting older, but it does have it’s perks sometimes. One such benefit is the ability to take advantage of senior discounts.
While the minimum age requirements may vary, some deals are available for folks as young as 50. Others may require you to be 65 or older, however.
Additionally, AARP members can reap even more benefits, as they receive everyday discounts at countless stores, restaurants, and service providers. (If you’re over 50 and aren’t a member, we highly recommend signing up, as the membership easily pays for itself.)
When it comes to getting a senior discount, there are a myriad of places that offer them. However, the offers may vary depending on factors like your location and whether or not you’re an AARP member. We suggest always asking if there’s a senior discount, no matter where you shop. It might surprise you how many places have them.
Additionally, while we’ve found these discounts to be valid ay some stores, we can offer no guarantee of availability. Days of the week may also change or vary from one city to another. If you’re depending on a senior discount, we suggest calling ahead to ensure it’s still valid. Also, you’ll need to make sure you have a valid ID with you when shopping. That said, here are a dozen stores where we've found senior discounts.
On the first Wednesday of each month, shoppers over 55 can save 10%. (Note: the day of the week may vary based on location.)
Like Albertsons, Fred Meyer also has a senior discount day that occurs once a month for those over 55. In most cases, this occurs on the first Tuesday of the month, and it should save you 10%.
Folks over 65 can get a wellness65+ card to use at Rite Aid. This saves you 20% on purchases made on the first Wednesday of the month both in store and online. The card also entitles you to free consultations with a pharmacist and several other benefits.

Who doesn’t enjoy stumbling across a fantastic thrift store find? Better still, you could get a discount on those treasures, too. You’ll have to call up your nearest location to find out which day they offer senior discounts. However, we can tell you that it’s typically 10% off. (Most of the time it’ll fall on a Tuesday or Wednesday.)
Senior discounts vary widely from one Salvation Army store to the next. However, seniors over 55 typically qualify for a discount that ranges from 15 to 50% off. You can find out more about your local store’s senior discount policy by calling ahead.
Customers that are 55 or older can get two lines for $70 a month using AutoPay. All lines feature unlimited talk, text, and LTE data. Plus, you’ll also get to take advantage of T-Mobile Tuesdays for various deals and freebies.
T-Mobile service not available in your area? Both AT&T and Verizon also have special deals for seniors as well.
If you’re 50 or older, you can get 10% off your Banana Republic purchase. Just ask an associate about the discount.
Over 60? Kohl’s offers a 15% discount every Wednesday. As with most of these deals, you may need to present your ID to the store associate.
On Tuesdays, we shop at Ross. Why? Because seniors over 55 can get 10% off that day.
Ross isn’t the only one with senior discounts on Tuesdays though. TJ Maxx also offers 10% off to seniors 55 and over on Tuesdays as well.
Make sure you have your AARP card handy if you’re shopping for new glasses at Lens Crafters. It could save you 30% on your glasses, or even take 40% off transition lenses.
